Instrument Rating (IR)
Take Control – Even When You Can’t See the Horizon
The Instrument Rating is the next big step in becoming a safer, more capable pilot. It allows you to legally fly in a wider range of weather conditions — through clouds, rain, and low visibility — using only your instruments and air traffic control guidance.
Whether you're a private pilot looking to increase your skills or a career-bound student preparing for commercial aviation, this certification is a must-have.
What You’ll Learn
IFR procedures and regulations
ATC communications and clearances
Instrument navigation using GPS, VOR, ILS, and more
Holding patterns, approaches, and missed approach procedures
Risk management and decision-making under IMC (Instrument Meteorological Conditions)
Requirements
Hold at least a Private Pilot License
50 hours of cross-country flight time as pilot-in-command
40 hours of actual or simulated instrument time (15 with an instructor)
Pass the FAA written exam and practical test (checkride)
Why Earn Your Instrument Rating
Fly safely in clouds and poor visibility
Reduce weather-related cancellations and delays
Gain confidence and precision in every flight
